Prep for the Pack: How to get the best out of your session
A great pet portrait is 50% technical skill and 50% “dog-whispering.” Whether we are at our Scarborough studio or in your living room, here is how we make the magic happen:
The “High-Value” Snack: Please bring their absolute favorite treats. Think beyond the dry kibble—bring the “smelly” stuff (chicken, cheese, or ham) that gets their undivided attention and creates those perfect head-tilts.
A Little Pre-Shoot Burn: If you have a high-energy dog, try a short walk or a quick game of fetch 30 minutes before we start. We want them settled and happy, not exhausted.
Grooming & The 102MP Detail: Our sensors pick up every whisker and texture. A quick brush before the session goes a long way. If you want that “just-from-the-groomers” look, we recommend booking their groom for 2–3 days before the shoot so the coat has time to look natural.
The Look (Collar or “Naked”?): A clean leather collar or a colourful bandana can look fantastic against our bold backgrounds. However, avoid bulky harnesses if possible, as they can hide their shape. For many dogs, “naked” is best to let their features be the star.
The “Squeak” Factor: Bring their most annoying, squeakiest toy! It’s our secret weapon for alert ear expressions and that spark in their eyes.
Be the Calm: Your dog takes their lead from you. If you’re relaxed and having fun, they will be too. We don’t mind the barks, the zoomies, or the occasional accident—it’s all part of the character!
